Coffee and Cake time!
This last weekend my family and I decided to make a trip to the Dubai Parks and Resorts. A friend of mine had mentioned that Riverland at Dubai Parks and Resorts, was definitely worth a visit.
We did make it there, the weather was fabulous and the energy just so effervescent. We strolled around taking in the different little shops that acted as a frame for a lovely lake that had an overhead bridge. Just fabulous and so pleasing to the eye!
Of course, the restaurants were aplenty and we just had to stop and sample some of the cuisine that was on offer. No resistance from myself as I’m all about food! But then, you knew that already, right!
We bumped into our friends coincidentally, and they suggested some Kaffee and Kuchen. I had a quizzical look on my face. Oh, forgot to mention, although I’m sure you would’ve guessed, my friends are German. :)
After exchanging the usual pleasantries, we got them to translate exactly what in heavens name was Kaffee and Kuchen?
The story goes like this…
In some countries, there doesn’t have to be a birthday or particular event to have to eat Cake, apparently. If you’re a cake lover, this would be wonderful news.
In Germany, for instance, there’s something called “Kaffee and Kuchen” meaning “Coffee and Cake” time. That’s when friends or family get together over a cup of coffee and some cake, while catching up with all the happenings in their life. This was more popular in the good old days though, now not so much.
Three chances at guessing why…, I’m sure you’ll get it at the first try –
We all have our heads down on our devices, no one seems to have the time anymore, sadly :(.
Considering the rate at which AI (Artificial Intelligence) is growing, maybe we’ll find ourselves sitting across a robot and having some Kaffee and Kuchen! No? Pretty close to a device I would say, albeit a rather large one ;)
I digress, let me get back on track. One of my favourite cakes, that happens to originate from Germany, is the Black Forest Cake.
Some sources claim that that the name of the cake is inspired by the traditional costume of the women of the Black Forest region, which boasts a characteristic hat with big, red pom-poms on top.
At Celebrating Life Bakery, the Black Forest we make is rich with layers of chocolate sponge, creamy and smooth.
I can’t guarantee our staff will be ordained with those flamboyant hats, but they surely have flamboyant smiles :)) that make you feel at home.
Can’t wait to hear from you!
